Going hard is the only way to get the results I want, the only way to reach my full potential. If you do the same things you will stay in the same place. In 2008 when I was over 400 lbs I never thought I would be walking a mile, definitely didn't think I would be running a 5k New Years day 2010, by the end of year I had done five 5k's two 10k's one 10 miler a 6k and a Half Marathon. ALL done with no training at all (not a smart move by me) I had found my competitive spirit again . My mind, and heart were geared up for every race but my body wasn't. I felt the aches and pains for days and days.... Like I said, NOT A SMART MOVE. Fast Forward. Two months into 2011 and I am waiting for my calender to read March 20. Amped up for the Publix Ga 1/2 Marathon. This is my 2nd Half and now I am both mentally and physically prepared. I have done two 5k's this year and as of today nikeplus.com says I have tagged a total of 79.44 miles since Jan 1, 2011 (two 5k's + 73.24 training miles) So now back to the question..... Why DO I PUSH ? I push myself so that I can be the best me I can be. Friends and Family I push you because I have been there. Having someone in your corner is a wonderful thing. Especially when that person has walked 13.1 miles in your shoes.BigWill78http://www.blogger.com/profile/07120239036559082669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618958785070958862.post-22384739418637441172011-02-03T11:39:00.000-08:002011-02-03T11:41:41.390-08:00Thought of the dayEvery second push harder, every minute dig deeper, every hour go further. Jan 1 2010 I decided with my fiance to start our year with the Atlanta Track Club and run Resolution Run 2010 5K. maybe we should try the 5k. End results a 51:30 time for me and a renewed competitive spirit I hadn't had since my days of playing football. During the course of 2010 I have logged numorus miles, met tons of new friends and lost some pounds too. Fast forward January 1, 2011 Resolution Run 2011.... I had a chance to see and talk to alot of old friends and former teammates. Received several comments on my new slimmer look. And also got to look back at myself 15 years ago when I was high school senior 10 pounds lighter than i am right now. Out of shape and going through the motion'sof sports, school, life and growing up. Everyone wants to know why i do so much more. What happened from then to now? LOL i do it for the looks on your faces. Wow.... My longest road race yet..... I knew it wouldn't be easy but I knew that if I REALLY want to be ready for the Atlanta Half Marathon my training has got to get picked up. So bye bye 5K and 10K..... 10 mile here I come.... Beautiful day outside, early start time, and great volunteers..... This should be fun. Mile 1 12:40, mile 2 25:31. Gut check at around 4 1/2 miles. Do the Singelton 5 mile or 10 mile?????Go Hard or go HOME. Looking up at the 5mile/10mile split I decide to stick with the 10. I glance up again and I see that I am the only person left doing 10 miler, the group of people I was just with were ALL 5milers... All I can think is "Dude you still weigh over 300 pounds... What am I doing?" Alone I continue on.... mile 6, mile 7, mile 8. My body aches , I am tired, I am thirsty. Course is empty now. The time keepers are gone.... Its just me, my ipod, the open road a few volunteers and the Dekalb County Police Department. Mile 9. Almost Home.... I am cramping, shedding a few tears also. Mile 10..... The finish.... 2 hours 27 min..... AND now the pain sets in...... NEVER GIVE UPBigWill78http://www.blogger.com/profile/07120239036559082669noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618958785070958862.post-54788663037918586712010-09-04T13:31:00.000-07:002010-09-11T14:50:13.566-07:00Put me in coach.....Just left doctor. Every workout counts, this is a HUGE HUGE week for me.BigWill78http://www.blogger.com/profile/07120239036559082669noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618958785070958862.post-7446394527499565552010-08-02T14:14:00.000-07:002010-08-02T14:23:21.586-07:00What is more important.... How YOU LOOK OR HOW YOU FEEL. For some of my journey I found myself obsessed with the scale. Weighing twice a day. Since then I have cut it to 2 sometimes 3 days a week... Should I be caring more about the #'s the scale show..... Or the fact that my blood pressure is back to normal. At the age of 32 I am about 25 pounds heavier than I was in the 12th grade. I have tossed out several outfits because they are just TOO BIG now. So what I am saying now is GOOD BYE scale and hello to looking good, feeling great and staying MOTIVATED.BigWill78http://www.blogger.com/profile/07120239036559082669noreply@blogger.com1
